Hotels, heritage property in Indore & Ujjain getting infra boost for Simhastha 2028

Indore: In preparation for an anticipated substantial influx of tourists during Simhastha, the tourism department is increasing room inventories and preserving heritage property in Indore and Ujjain. This initiative aims to elevate the visitor experience and strengthen infrastructure at key locations in the region, accommodating large tourist volumes.
The anticipated footfall of devotees in Simhastha 2028 is projected at approximately 15 crore, compared to nearly 9 crore in the previous Simhastha in 2016 within one month. The religious circuit of Ujjain and Omkareshwar has emerged as a premier tourist destination in the state, attracting substantial number of visitor in recent years.
Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) has initiated numerous projects at Ujjain, Indore, Maheshwar, and Choral to incorporate new facilities and enhance infrastructure. The corporation has issued tenders soliciting bids from contractors for development work at these locations.
"Ujjain and Indore attract highest tourist influx in the state owing to presence of Mahakal temple, Omkareshwar, and numerous other tourist locations in the region. This area also houses some of the finest hotels and resorts, which are being upgraded to increase room capacity and amenities, considering the growing tourist interest," said Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation, Indore regional manager Ajay Shrivastava.
There are an estimated more than 320 existing rooms in Indore and Ujjain region in MPTDC hotels and resorts. The department is expanding accommodation at Maheshwar and Choral resorts, while comprehensive development and restoration work will be undertaken at the ancient Veer Durgadas ki Chhatri in Ujjain. The Darbar Hall at Rajwada in Indore district will undergo conservation and upgrade.
The state archaeology department intends to undertake restoration and enhancement of amenities at five heritage sites in and around Ujjain as part of Simhastha preparations. The sites identified for conservation and restoration in Ujjain are the Chhatri of Veer Durgadas, Ram Janardan temple, Shri Chaubis Khamba Mata temple, the ancient Chamunda Mata temple Gazni Khedi, and Vishwa Chastika.
